dinosaurs never made it this far

i am an american
filled with television
slathered commercialism
an omnivore by nature
i hate broccoli, asparagus, onions, and peas
i like chicken, beef, shrimp, and fish
in a day i listen to music for more hours than i sleep
i restrict myself to 4 channels on tv
like some sort of diet
i memorize commercials
like they're vegetables

we are riveted
by each other

and we'll diet till we drop

But you sort of wonder--the dinosaurs seemed pretty happy didn't they? I mean, until the whole mass extinction thing. I imagine our downfall might be an extinction of sorts as well; not one of the physical sense but rather of the individual.

that's an interesting way to think about extinction. i hope that we never reach a point in society at which our individuality is in jeopardy. though our individuality may sometimes be controlled by governments or leaders, we have also given ourselves a chance to focus on our individuality rather than our physical life. by allowing others to watch our streets, our food, and our collective well-being, we have relieved ourselves of those burdens and opened up the door for our minds to break free.

we sacrifice our physical duties and the potential satisfaction we would receive from pursuing them to obtain something so much more valuable: the freedom to create. for this reason, though i might be frustrated by particular leaders from time to time, i will always hold our governments in the absolute highest regard. i owe them, partly, most things that i hold dear.

if we lose our minds before we lose our bodies, then it will be a sad day for humanity. but at least all hope will not be lost. governments arose from humanity in a state of nature before; i believe, wholeheartedly, that they can again. we are a creative people, and that fire within us--i pray--will never be extinguished.

An optimist, I take it? :) Don't worry, I agree wholeheartedly that even under the most extreme circumstances, the human spirit and essence manages to prevail. It is what distinguises us. So long as people still seek out ways in which to be individuals, whether through forums like these, on a canvas, through music, or just in their daily interactions with others, I think we'll probably be ok, too.
