100 nights

the story of a life
settles in like a campfire
warm it cracks and pops
it lights the hillside that
others mind find it
to sleep soundly
by its side

my story is no different than yours
put to words birds fly with different wings
but their flights are all the same:
beautiful, uninhibited, free

and what is a story
but a masterful dream
put to words?

Seriously, I want to know more about the person behind the poems. And yet, so long as I do not, I can imagine perhaps he is a little like me, which makes the poems speak that much more.

anonymous--your comments mean a great deal to me. to know that you are moved by my poetry inspires me to continue writing what i truly feel. i could never write anything that did not come directly from my heart, so be comforted by the fact that to know my poetry is to know me at a level that most do not. thank you for showing me that you care, it is one of the greatest gifts we can give each other.

I'm glad you don't mind the anonymous tag. I come from a whole different world of writing--the fact-checking, no emotion-necessary side of journalism. And I sit here at work, looking at the things you write and the way I see myself in them, and it is hard for me to reconcile the way I often try to treat the world as so black-and-white. Simply put, your poems bring me back to humanity.
